Exhibition | Performance
A multimedia exhibition and performance which brings the story of the abandoned building seeks to recall once again its sensational past, while intervening in the present. The performance “On the loop” through “moving statues” brings some characters that best portray the function of this building. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, a facility would be built that would serve for almost 40 years as a canteen for the workers of one of the largest construction companies in the former Yugoslavia: “Ramiz Sadiku”. Drawings of the current state of the canteen, as a reminder of the past and the intervention that is made today. After 1989, when “Ramiz Sadiku” went bankrupt as a result of political tensions, the canteen took on another function. It would become one of the humanitarian centers for refugees of the last war in Kosovo, and then a restaurant. This facility, in addition to serving as a canteen for the company’s employees and then for students and people with social assistance, would also house various cultural, musical and entertainment activities.
Therefore, the rhythms of repetitive music will convey the beautiful and dark emotions that this building carries in itself for a completely different experience. All this will be followed by an architectural installation and a detailed account of the history of the building, as the residents of the neighborhood “Pejton” remember. “Metamorphosis” brings collective memory, revitalizes the abandoned building for a day, drawing attention to its historical significance and preservation. The Metamorphosis project aims to provide an environment that strengthens the capacity of youth through art education and civic engagement in cultural activities.
