Shtatëmbëdhjetë(17) thanks to the cooperation with the Regional Government of Styria for artists and theorists within the Styria-Artists-in-Residence program, in addition to the exchange program presents the firts kosovar artist in residence in Graz for 2023-2024, Dhurata Hoti.
Dhurata studied dramaturgy at the Faculty of Arts in Prishtina. She is an author of various theatre plays, film scripts, short stories, performances, poetry, painting and culture journalism. Her early inspiration include authors that explore the hidden, often dark side of human nature and its patterns, like Dostojevski, Charles Baudelaire, Anais Nin, Milan Kundera, Dino Buxati, August Strindberg, Jack Kerouac, Haruki Murakami, Sylvia Plath, De Sad, Ernesto Sabato, Bulgakov, Martin Camaj, Stafan Cvaig and movie directors like Tarkovski, Bergman, Antonioni, Truffaut, Andrzej Zulawski, Agnes Warda. Her writings are a way of exploring personal and social issues, collective unconscious, universal myths, sexuality, search for identity, spirituality and contemporary relationships. The themes that she uses are based slightly in autofiction, set up in our contemporary world with surreal, magical realism and horror elements. Creating various characters and ‘playing’ with them is a way to deal with the boredom and dissatisfaction of real life. She likes to write about things that she wants to do, but wouldn’t because of ethics, things that she’s scared to do, or the one’s that she isn’t able to do because our reality logic doesn’t allow us.
