We are pleased to announce that the new visual artist from Shkodra, Xhulian Millaj, will be part of the Matanë art residency and will stay in Prishtina for three weeks.
Xhulian (1998) is a visual artist who completed his higher studies in Painting and Graphics at Luigj Gurakuqi University in Shkodra and is pursuing postgraduate studies in Multimedia at the University of Arts in Tirana.
Experimentation and research are at the core of his artistic practice. The alternation of different media arises as a need to expand artistic expression but also as a tool for a broader worldview and method of navigating the endless information we face.
As a young artist he raises questions about several social phenomena: growing up in the age of the internet, the state, home, the faith and the creation of identity in a country in transition towards ideologies. Through various media it presents parts of reality intertwined with fictions. An alternative world where everything is perfect, a chaotic real world where the image is nothing more than an echo of a distorted relationship between desire and fear. It often refers to both the internet and digital archives for work and research, considering it as a universal collective memory.
Matanë supports the relationship between art and research by giving space and time to artists of every discipline to work on a new project with access to various resources in Prishtina and Shkodra.
